About This Course

Financial Management is a practical, decision-focused course designed to help learners understand how financial information is used to plan, control and support business decisions. Rather than focusing only on accounting records, the course develops the ability to read financial information, understand what the numbers mean and use them to decide what should happen next. The course begins with the role and purpose of financial management and the relationship between the three main financial statements: the statement of profit or loss, statement of financial position and statement of cash flows. Learners then develop practical skills in ratio analysis by calculating and interpreting profitability, liquidity, efficiency and solvency measures to assess business performance and financial risk. Learners are also introduced to the time value of money, including future value, present value and annuity concepts, before applying financial planning tools such as sales budgets, expense budgets, cash budgets and variance analysis. Working capital management is covered through cash, inventory, receivables and payables, with emphasis on improving cash flow and managing the cash conversion cycle. The course further examines financing decisions, including debt, equity, internal finance and the basic concept of cost of capital. Learners apply capital budgeting techniques such as payback period, accounting rate of return, net present value and internal rate of return to evaluate long-term investment decisions. Finally, learners explore financial risk, sensitivity and scenario analysis, break-even analysis, internal controls, ethics and financial dashboards. By the end of the course, learners should be able to combine financial calculations with sound judgement, explain the business meaning behind the results and communicate clear recommendations that support profitability, liquidity, sustainability and responsible decision-making.
